Job Description:
Senior Workday Reporting Specialist
Fully Remote — United States | Temporary Contract
Turn complex reporting into clear, actionable HR insights. Hunter Hamilton is seeking an experienced Workday Reporting Specialist for a client headquarters in Virginia. This fully remote opportunity supports the HR Reporting & Analytics team and offers the chance to improve a large, established reporting environment while helping strengthen its governance and scalability. Candidates in Eastern or Central time zones are preferred. The engagement is expected to begin as a three-month contract, with potential for extension or full-time conversion; neither is guaranteed.
The Opportunity
You’ll work across an ecosystem of 5,000+ Workday reports and approximately 300 dashboards and Discovery Boards. This is more than a report-building role: you’ll investigate what already exists, identify dependencies, adapt proven reporting assets, and reduce duplication. Approximately 60% of your work will focus on responding to reporting requests through report development or modification, with 40% dedicated to optimizing, enhancing, and consolidating existing reporting assets. You’ll partner closely with HR teams, HR leadership, and the Power BI team.
What You’ll Do
- Translating stakeholder needs into accurate, effective Workday reporting solutions, asking probing questions to clarify requirements and evaluating existing reports before creating new ones.
- Develop and modify Advanced, Matrix, Composite, and Trending Reports, calculated fields, prompts, and as-of-dating logic; support dashboards, Worksheets, and Discovery Boards.
- Assess existing report logic, historical builds, Workday limitations, dependencies, and downstream impacts before making changes.
- Optimize and consolidate reports, clean up dashboards and analytics assets, and improve reporting documentation and structure.
- Manage report sharing, ownership transfers, scheduling, distribution, and migration from sandbox to production.
- Validate report results and requester access using authorized proxy access, where available, and confirm the solution meets the requester’s needs before closing requests.
- Review security groups, user security profiles, report audiences, and role-based versus individual sharing; coordinate with the security team when specialized support is needed.
- Support audit-related activities and help strengthen reporting governance, access practices, and distribution controls.
- Handle sensitive HR information, including home addresses, pay, and performance data—with care and appropriate access controls
- Manage competing priorities across a high volume of requests and collaborate with HR stakeholders and the Power BI team.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on Workday reporting experience, with the ability to navigate a complex, established reporting environment.
- Advanced expertise developing Workday reports, with particular strength in Advanced Reports, plus experience building Matrix Reports, Composite Reports, Trending Reports, and Calculated Fields, including prompts and as-of dating.
- Experience creating and maintaining Workday Dashboards, Discovery Boards, and Worksheets, along with hands-on reporting governance experience.
- Strong understanding of Workday security and data access models.
- Strong command of the report lifecycle, including sharing, ownership, scheduling, sandbox-to-production migration, and requester-level testing.
- Strong HR functional knowledge across Talent Management, Compensation, Benefits, and Recruiting/Talent Acquisition, with the ability to address complex Compensation and Benefits reporting needs.
- Working knowledge of reporting across core HR and census, learning, time tracking and absence, payroll, and talent and succession.
- Strong Excel skills and the ability to calculate and validate headcount, tenure, and attrition metrics accurately.
- Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into reporting solutions, with excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with a disciplined approach to prioritization and follow-through.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- The investigative mindset to assess unfamiliar reporting assets, understand dependencies, and improve existing solutions rather than recreate them.
Preferred Qualifications
- Workday Reporting Certification is strongly preferred.
- Power BI exposure and an understanding of how to collaborate effectively with a Power BI team.
- Experience using approved AI tools to improve efficiency and productivity in accordance with data privacy and security policies.
- Experience leading report consolidation or governance improvements within a large, established Workday environment.
Why Consider This Role?
Bring your Workday expertise to a fully remote engagement where you can make a visible impact: simplify a complex reporting landscape, improve the reliability and usability of HR insights, and help establish more scalable reporting practices. If you enjoy investigative analysis, independent problem-solving, and close stakeholder partnership, this opportunity offers meaningful work beyond building reports from scratch.
